It is known that in any form of art, inspiration is drawn from previous works of others. This is the case with filmmaking as well!
Many of the Stooge directors worked for Mack Sennett in the silent film era. The stuffing of the turkey sequence is not new with this film. Hiring cooks/servers by accident was used in the 1934 Vitaphone short 'A Peach of a Pair' where Shemp "separates" eggs, "dices" potatoes, "cleans" oysters, "soaks" the bread and leaves his watch in the stuffed turkey!
After spilling alum on the grapefruit (cf. No Census, No Feeling) Shemp uses a gasoline drum instead of wine barrel to fill a pitcher. This leads to a final explosion. Lloyd French who wrote this Stooge film, also directed the Shemp film, and Shemp of course was the older brother of Curly and Moe, so an ever renewed supply of comic inspiration must have been flowing into and around Columbia!
The Stooges and their Columbia staff constantly reinvented and adapted older comic material for the trio format of The Three Stooges. Stuffing a turkey became one of their own signature recipes. As the new millennium of the comedians from whom they borrowed are generally forgotten, their films warehoused or lost, while the Stooge films are still seen and admired by each subsequent generation!
