ShopKnuckleheads: On This Day in History

News today from ShopKnuckleheads:

Today marks the anniversary of Curly’s first marriage to Julia Rosenthal in 1930. This marriage was annulled in January 1931. Curly married three more times, to Elaine Ackerman, Marion Buxbaum and Valerie Newman, with whom he had a daughter, Janie. Valerie married Curly in July 1947 and was by his side, ever faithful and ever loving, during his strokes and illness until his death in 1952.

Supporting cast member Elinor Vandivere celebrates a birthday today, August 5th, in 1886 in New York City. Hollywood regarded her as the only rival to Bess Flowers (pictured here) as ‘The queen of the dress extras’. Elinor appeared in four shorts with The Boys and Bess in several. The two ladies also worked together with Shemp in the 1942 Universal madcap comedy Hellzapoppin’.
